Quality Control Technician

Primary Purpose To perform specified Quality Control tests on raw materials and production batches while developing technical knowledge, experience and capabilities in coatings technology. Duties and Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Quality Control, this employee is responsible for performing various analyses, physical testing, and evaluations of coatings’ properties, materials, performance levels, keeping accurate records and conformance to standards. Specific duties/responsibilities are as follows:
- Obtains materials necessary for Laboratory use.
- Utilizes and calibrates various Laboratory equipment/apparatus.
- Performs routine quantitative and qualitative tests and analyses to determine chemical and physical properties.
- Carries out a variety of standardized methods, tests and procedures in accordance with specific instructions.
- Prepares drawdowns and performs routine tests.
- Operates PC and utilizes the Oracle software to adjust batches and record batch adjustments.
- Recommends corrective action on off-standard materials within guidelines established by the Raw Material and Rework teams.
- Maintains accurate records for documentation purposes. 9. Becomes knowledgeable with Tnemec products and codes.
- Becomes knowledgeable with test methods and test equipment.
- Maintains Laboratory area and equipment as required.
- Performs other routine tests and functions as may be required from time-to-time by the Supervisor of Quality Control.
Essential Functions
- Periods of prolonged standing.
- Lifting and moving up to 60 lbs.
- Computer dexterity.
- Answering incoming telephone calls (night line).
Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience / Education and Training
- Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must demonstrate ability to work individually and as a part of a team with a high degree of integrity and accuracy.
- Requires a score of 50 or higher on a basic color recognition test, and a score of 75% or greater on a math test.
- Computer keyboard skills and basic familiarity with Microsoft Windows & MS Office applications are strongly desired.
- Previous experience in Quality Control is preferred.
