As an HR Specialist at our paint and coverings company in North Kansas City, your typical day involves providing essential support to various HR activities and programs, including staffing, compensation, benefits, training, and safety. You'll be the go-to person for employees seeking clarification on HR policies and procedures, ensuring that everyone is well-informed and supported. Coordinating projects and implementing employee compensation, training, and benefit programs will also be part of your responsibilities, including effective communication strategies to ensure understanding and engagement. Reporting to the HR manager, you'll focus on the daily operations of the HR department, ensuring smooth functioning and contributing to the overall success of our team and organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Handles routine human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.
  • Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
  • Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.
  • Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.
  • Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policies, compensation, and other labor concerns; collects information and reports results to Human Resources Manager.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
  • Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, affirmative action plans, organizational charts, and employee handbooks.
  • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required.
  • At least three years of professional human resource administration.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
