St. Peters Rec-Plex

Following the completion of the St. Peters REC-PLEX in 1993, Head of Maintenance Dan Lang made a call to the local Tnemec coating consultant stating that he needed to order a couple gallons of Series 113 H.B. Tneme-Tufcoat. His request was due to the state of the hockey room area. The players had apparently been shooting the puck around the room, and the wall was now littered with black marks. Tnemec coating consultant Mike Cerutti quickly realized that he would be making no sale to Dan that day. Series 113 is a durable water-based epoxy, providing easy cleanup and excellent stain, abrasion, chemical and moisture-resistance. All that was required was a quick wipe down of the wall areas.

The majority of walls in the 124,000-square-foot recreation and athletic training complex including the hockey room, locker room, bathroom, equipment and corridor areas, were filled with Series 130 Envirofill, a waterborne cementitious acrylic, followed by H.B. Tneme-Tufcoat. Series 113 was also applied to all the drywall areas, with Series 51-792 PVA Sealer, a waterborne primer-sealer, first applied as the primer.

The interior walls in the natatorium and shower areas were specified with Envirofill and two coats of Series 83 Ceramlon at 6.0 to 8.0 mils DFT per coat. All hollow metal handrails, doors and doorframes were primed with Series 27 F.C. Typoxy, a versatile, low-temperature coating, brush and roller-applied at 2.0 to 3.0 mils DFT, followed by a topcoat of Series 71 Endura-Shield at 2.0 to 3.0 mils DFT.

The structural steel in the natatorium was spray-applied with Series 90-97 Tneme-Zinc, a moisturecured, zinc-rich urethane primer, followed by two coats of Series 66 Hi-Build Epoxoline, a polyamide epoxy, at 4.0 to 6.0 mils DFT. The perforated deck was coated with Series 161 Tneme-Fascure, a low temperature cure epoxy, and topcoated with Series 66. Interior overhead in the basketball court area was specified with Series 15 Uni-Bond, a one-coat rust-inhibitive alkyd primer.

“Tnemec is consistently used throughout this facility,” noted Cerutti. “I guess you could say the brand has certainly proven itself.”
