Located in the heart of Minnesota lakes country, the new 1.5 million gallon Detroit Lakes Water Tower is replacing the existing 1.0 million gallon multi-leg tower at the same site. The new tower will increase the hydraulic grade of the system by 23' (10 psi), improving water pressure to residents while opening up previously undevelopable areas within the Detroit Lakes Public Utilities service area. Given the new tower's tremendous stature, visibility, and proximity to Detroit Lake and Highway 10 passing through town, the City of Detroit Lakes saw an opportunity to highlight not only the town but the natural beauty which makes it a year-round destination. The design team worked with a local graphic designer and native to Detroit Lakes to capture what makes the town truly special. The final design highlights the wooded lake front, recreation, and breathtaking sunsets.
