Nomax

In an industry known for its thorough testing of new products, registered drug and medical device manufacturer Nomax, Inc. carefully examined flooring products for its new manufacturing facility before choosing a high-wear StrataShield system from Tnemec. “The pharmaceutical manufacturer was interested in a flooring system that offered outstanding impact resistance and a very durable finish,” according to Tnemec coating consultant Mike Cerutti. “We submitted panels featuring an epoxy mortar and an extremely hard, moisture-cured urethane finish, which passed very rigorous testing.”

Series 247 EverThane is a two-component, aliphatic moisture-cured urethane finish that exhibits excellent color stability and superior resistance to abrasion, chemical contact and staining. Its low odor characteristic allows for use near occupied space and is typically used as a finish coat over various epoxy systems intended for high traffic areas.

The StrataShield flooring system was approved for the project after test panels prepared by the coating contractor were thoroughly evaluated by Nomax for abrasion and impact resistance. The 15,000-square-foot concrete floor was shot blasted and surfaced with a double broadcast system of Series 237 Power-Tread, a modified polyamine epoxy, followed by a coat of Series 281 Tneme-Glaze, a durable polyamine epoxy broadcast with aluminum oxide for a total thickness of 3/16”.

After Series 281 cured, the floor was thoroughly sanded and cleaned prior to topcoating with Series 247, which was roller applied at 2.5 mils dry film thickness (DFT). “The coating contractor liked the product and is planning to use it again,” Cerutti noted.

Cerutti was impressed by the smooth, high gloss appearance of Series 247 EverThane. “Its color fast properties and outstanding resistance to abrasion will provide an aesthetically pleasing finish for many years. This makes it an ideal finish coat for high traffic areas where aesthetics are of high importance,” Cerutti added.

Founded in 1982, Nomax, Inc. is a registered drug and medical device manufacturer in St. Louis, specializing in solid and effervescent dosage forms. Originally located in Webster Groves, Mo., the company owns two subsidiaries: Amcon Laboratories and Char-Lite Products Inc.
