Due to the growth of the airport in the late 1990s, the existing parking structure at Dallas Love Field, 3 levels with an open lot for long-term parking, no longer sufficed. Additional parking spots were needed, so a new structure was built with a bridge connecting the two.
The new 1.4 million sq.ft. parking garage, completed in 2000, is comprised of a precast clad post-tensioned structure providing over 4,000 parking spaces, a 53,000 sq.ft. elevated concourse at the third level, and an elevated skybridge and lobby. Located adjacent to the existing parking garage, this new structure assumes a prominent location directly behind the Spirit of Flight Statue that serves as the gateway for the Terminal building. As a result, the garage was provided with a design feature to compliment and enhance the statue’s presence.
The project’s architect had years of positive experience with Chemprobe products and specified its use on the new parking structure. Series 660 Prime-A-Pell 200, a solvent-borne siloxane water repellent, was applied by low pressure spray on all vertical precast concrete on both the new and existing garages. Series 635 Dur A Pell 10, a waterborne silane/siloxane blend water repellent, was applied by low pressure spray on all horizontal concrete of the new structure. Being waterborne, the low odor Series 635 can be applied in interior space and won’t wear from constant traffic. It also penetrates deep into the substrate, providing protection against the damaging effects of chloride intrusion.
Both Prime-A-Pell 200 and Dur A Pell 10 are visually imperceptible when dry and do not alter the color or texture of the substrate. Resistant to UV and weather deterioration, both products also resist water intrusion, stain damage, freeze/thaw spalling, efflorescence and rust damage.
Chemprobe water repellent products were also used to protect the terminals and parking garages at the nearby Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport.
