Located 50 miles west of downtown St. Louis in the middle of Missouri Wine Country, the city of Washington was one of the first American cities west of the Mississippi River. Now a thriving city with a growing population, Washington is a wonderful city of parks, churches, public & parochial schools, commerce and industry. The city has four National Register Historic Districts and one of the busiest riverfronts for recreational boating between St. Louis and Kansas City.

After the exterior of a local 500,000 gallon pedisphere featuring a millennium logo started to slightly fade, the city decided the tank needed to be refreshed in the fall of 2006. Any areas exhibiting minimal rust were prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP3, followed by a spot prime coat of Series 27 F.C. Typoxy, a fast-curing, versatile polyamide epoxy. Next, two coats of Series 1028 Enduratone, a High Dispersion Pure acrylic polymer, were brush and roller applied to the entire exterior. A water-based, low VOC coating that provides excellent long-term protection, Series 1028 is mildew resistant, exhibits very good gloss and color stability, and may be spray, brush or roller applied to achieve dryfall. The product may also be used over many aged coatings, which was the case with the Crestview tank which had been previously coated with an acrylic polymer.

Due to the location of the tank being in a residential neighborhood, the owner did not want the exterior coating system to be spray applied. By rolling Series 1028, the owner’s wishes were met while still maintaining dryfall characteristics. The applicator reports that Series 1028 was very easy to roll and had excellent coverage.

In addition, the interior of the tank was prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP10/NACE No. 2, followed by a prime coat of Series 91-H2O Hydro-Zinc, a moisture-cured, zincrich urethane primer. Next, two coats of Series 20 Pota-Pox, a polyamide epoxy, were applied to complete the interior coating system.
