Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Product Performance group by gathering, managing, and sharing information related to product performance. This includes providing training, support, and guidance on processes for obtaining and disseminating relevant data.
Collaborate with the Product Performance Manager, R&D Group, Testing Lab, Technical Service, Sales, and Marketing teams to gather data on the properties and performance of Tnemec coatings, as well as those of competitive products.
Assist chemists and formulators in product development by evaluating application methods and other physical characteristics.
Provide comprehensive information on product properties, performance, testing, specifications, and formulations to both internal and external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Listed below are the primary duties that will be performed, in the order of importance. (The most “important” duty is not necessarily the duty that requires the most time.)
- Initiate, coordinate, or assign projects, evaluations, and training.
- Outline product performance testing projects for the Testing Lab to carry out.
- Review and analyze new test data generated from projects weekly
- Obtain third-party testing price quotes for testing.
- Assist chemists during formulation of products for optimizing physical and application properties.
- Analyze and organize testing data to offer product use recommendations to Tech Service, Marketing, Sales, and Sales Representatives.
- Coordinate, organize using OneNote, follow up, and set up meetings for new products.
- Initiate or attend meetings with Sales, R&D, Marketing, and Tech Service to discuss product development, test requests, testing data, evaluations, and product capabilities/ end uses.
- Respond to Sales Representatives requests on products and testing.
- Write technical reports and Tnemec Test Methods when needed.
- Interpret external specifications and standards.
- Create Performance Criteria sheets for new products, and update performance criteria of existing products when possible.
- Review/update Product Data Sheets of new and existing products
- Assist with chemical resistance inquiries

- Product Knowledge: In-depth understanding of product specifications and performance to effectively support customer needs.
Education and Training
- Requires a Bachelor of Science and 5+ years in coatings research. Chemistry background preferred.
- Have an intimate knowledge of coatings’ functions, capabilities and properties.
- Must show the ability to organize, coordinate and harmonize without destroying their initiative.
- Work effectively with other departments.
- A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is extremely beneficial.
