Primary Purpose

The over-the-road driver’s primary purpose is to safely haul finished goods and raw materials to and from Tnemec locations and to our customers on time, and in good condition.

This position will primarily transport goods back and forth between the Tnemec North Kansas City Plant and the Tnemec Baltimore Plant, with the intent of being “home” two days per week. Overnight stays in sleeper cab will be required. Additional or alternative runs may occasionally be required.

The preferred candidate will interact with Tnemec and supplier Shipping, Receiving, and Material Handling employees. This candidate must possess excellent customer service skills, as they will be representing Tnemec in direct interactions with customers.


The starting pay for this position is $57,000.00, but willing to pay more based on experience and credentials.

This position is also eligible for incentives based on performance and/or safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Listed below are the primary duties that will be performed, in the order of importance. (The most “important” duty is not necessarily the duty which requires the most time.)

  1. Safely transport freight between various locations, over long distances.
  2. Perform Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) before/after each trip to ensure that all mechanical systems are in good working order.
  3. Carefully plan routes to ensure that deliveries are completed in a timely manner.
  4. Maintaining company vehicle, including washing, cleaning, oil changes, tire rotations, and other periodic maintenance and minor repairs, as necessary.
  5. Maintaining electronic logs (or paper logbooks as backup), detailing hours driven, rest breaks, miles covered, as well as all fuel, repair, and toll expenses.
  6. Promptly report any traffic violations, road accidents, and vehicle breakdowns to management.
  7. Notify dispatcher and customer of any delay that may affect scheduled delivery times.
  8. Assist in loading and unloading of freight to/from the company truck.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience
  • Ability to effectively use Electronic Logging Device (ELD) applications
  • Ability to use road maps and GPS devices
  • Sound knowledge of road safety regulations
  • Familiarity with FMCSA driver requirements pertaining to daily inspections, maintenance logs, and hours-of-service rules

Education and Training

  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Hazmat Endorsement
  • Tanker (X) Endorsement preferred
  • Maintain clean driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
  • Availability to be away from home for a several days at a time
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent attitude, ambitious, team player
