Batch Maker

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is as follows:

Loads mills in accordance with formulas and instructions received from a Supervisor or Lead Person, and packages finished materials by filling proper containers for storage in the Warehouse or for shipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Puts raw materials into high-speed dispersion tanks and blend tanks per schedule and in accordance with formulas, with particular emphasis on proper sequence of introduction and accuracy of quantity according to the batch-tickets
  2. Washes tanks and other containers used within the department
  3. Operates pumps, meters, agitators, and tanks as required
  4. Handles all required raw material in work area to provide continuity of operations
  5. Assists in taking department inventories/cycle counts as directed
  6. Always works in a safe and efficient manner that ensures quality
  7. Properly documents raw matieral inputs and time according to batch-ticker requirements
  8. Uses materials, equipment, and facilities in an efficient and conscientious manner according to proper procedures
  9. Works assigned hours and overtime as directed to support business needs
  10. Suggests improvements in safety, job methods, equipment, or procedures
  11. Follows HMIS and PPE Safety Program
  12. Assists in other departments as required
  13. Performs other duties as required by the Lead Person or Supervisor

Essential Functions

  1. Continuous standing or walking for six (6) hours per day
  2. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 100 pounds of weight
  3. Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, and repetitive motion
  4. Enduring temperatures up to 105 F. during summer months
  5. Occasional requirement to utilize half-face respirator
  6. Occasional operation of forklift and drum dolly equipment
  7. Reading and writing on batch-tickets
  8. Periodically, confined space tank entry is required

Requirements

  1. Demonstrated ability to properly operate assigned equipment in accordance with the batch-ticket instructions, PSMs, and other procedures
  2. Demonstrated quality performance of two (2) or less errors in preceding 12 months.  “Error” is defined as any operator mistake or deviation from the original batch-ticket or adjustment instruction (hit) that may or may not result in additional correction, batch “Hold”, or batch being sludged.  If a Batchmaker makes five (3) or more errors in any succeeding rolling period, he will be subject to disciplinary action.
  3. Must be out of your probationary period.
  4. Demonstrated safety performance to include zero reportable accidents within the preceding twelve (12) month rolling period.
  5. Documented attendance of no more than forty-eight (48) hours missed in the preceding twelve (12) month rolling period.
  6. Documented overall performance rating of “Good” or better for the preceding two (2) performance evaluations.
  7. Attend, participate, and successfully pass the Batch-Maker 101 training class by scoring a 65% or higher final grade on the exam.  An employee who doesn’t receive a passing grade can retake the exam after consultation with the Director of Operations and at his final discretion.  If an employee is not able to pass the exam on the second attempt the employee will not be eligible for Batch-Maker recognition and will be given an opportunity to transfer to another position, if available.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

The following experience is required for successfully performing this job

  • Ability to work well with others and perform whatever tasks are necessary to get the job accomplished
  • No less than two (2) years of on-the-job training to meet Batchmaker qualification status

Education and Training

  • High School Diploma or GED
